Mar 30, 2015 - Hey guys Today I finally bought the yamaha thr10x that I've been. A patch you created without the PC: select the patch in the THR Editor. Hey guys, I spent 3 hours in the store yesterday switching between the THR10 and the 10X, unable to decide which to get. If it was for me I'd get the 10X as the Brown II tone is killer but it's for teaching purposes and so the hi-gain on the THR does the job just fine. However, I am not convinced I've made the right choice (or the wrong one). I'll be teaching rock guitar - so expect to live in the hi-gain range most of the time with maybe some Hendrix, Vaughan and AC/DC tones thrown in. However I can't shake the sound of the Brown II nor the killer tones Satchel got from his demo. So whilst it made sense to get the 10 as the sounds are already in the box, as Soren expertly demonstrated in his video, and labelled under the right amp, I should be able to get the same crunchy tones by dialling down any of the 10X channels (even though it may be confusing to be switching to a Powerball to get country crunch) and so get to keep not only the Brown sound but have enough oomph for any students who want to play stupido-metal. So have any of you managed to get these classic 70s rock, blues and 60s r'n'b and country tones from the 10X and care to share your settings? I've owned both the 10 and 10X, and I just bought another 10 -- the easy portability made it irresistable, and I have uses for the bass, acoustic, and flat channels of the 10. I am a gain freak, and I like the modern high gain channel on the 10 better for metal than any of the 10X channels. Can it be done with the 10X? Snow patrol open your eyes midi file. But it's more finicky. They both have the same clean channel. I *really* wish they'd come out with a THR amp that had all of the channels, plus a footswitch. I would buy one in a heartbeat. But as the product line stands, I like the 10 better than the 10X, even for metal. Thanks for the advice. ![]() I agree about the ease of getting mid-range tones on the 10 as opposed to finagling a hi-gain setting to replicate them. However, I'm the opposite regarding the hi-gain. I wish they'd put the brown II on the 10 instead of the MHG, lol. I also just remembered I was happy to buy a Fender Mustang and the 10 is far superior in terms of tone so with that in mind, it doesn't matter if I think the 10X does hi-gain better. A few questions about the editor and presets: • Is it true that your noise gate settings get reset to default every time you turn the amp on? • I saw a YT video that shows nearly 30 patches can be stored per bank but what's the point when you can only recall 5 on the amp? • When you select a preset, does the amp in use light up? • Is there anyway/anywhere to swap presets with other THR users? Its daft you can't get the other amps as virtual add-ons for a few $$ more. Probably a lock for the Gen2 edition tho. I disagree that the 10 is as good as the 10X - for metal. If you aren't a metal first player, the 10 is the right choice, but rock is not metal and there the X makes a difference in subtle but still present variety.
